I love this idea! I have struggled with the inefficiencies of the mechanisms through which I teach my own technology/productivity training sessions; something like this would be very exciting!

Patrick, I thought we might be on the same page :) I'm going to take a good look at what you have been working on the Giant Edugraph.

@Jeremy yes...that list is great. On my list of sites to scrape! I think the connecting those tools with the faculty -- and students! -- using them would be a huge value-add.

Fantastic idea, sir. Seems like a good deal of this could take place on the Digital Research Tools wiki started up by Lisa Spiro. Or that could at least be the starting point. There's already a great collection of tools listed there.

(The link to DimDim is broken...missing a "w.")

Trevor,
Oh, yeah, we're on the same page! This is exactly what I'm working on with this wacky Giant EduGraph idea (posts here and here). A place for people to share the tools they use in a class, and especially to get some correlation betwee the tools, and the topics, and the methodologies of those classes would be a huge boon for collaboration in higher ed.

And your usage examples are fantastic...They would do great things to motivate faculty to contribute info -- that's always essential. And the karma-points idea for institutions is also great!

Maybe we should join forces on this (and together we can rule the Galaxy!). here's an example of a similar idea, but working around books a course uses rather than tools (but I'm also considering books as a subset of tools). Still sketchy, but here's the input screen I'm using if you want to play. Hopefully we can chat more about this soon.
